Kosen-Rufu and Frozen Tofu: A Comparison

HumorM. Simon
Kosen-rufu is the essence of Nichiren Buddhism. It has been defined variously as spreading the Lotus Sutra, teaching people about the mantra Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and/or achieving world peace by doing these things.

Frozen tofu is also referred to as tofu ice cream. Tofu, which is made of soybeans, provides the basis for a low-fat, dairy-free frozen dessert alternative.

Kosen-rufu is understood to be the process of each person becoming happy in ordinary, daily life, thus providing the basis for world peace.

Frozen tofu, when blended with strawberries, bananas, orange juice and a dash of vanilla, is a fresh, frosty and fruity way to enjoy tofu.

Kosen-rufu refers to the potential of each and every person to attain Buddhahood, and the actualization of this potential.

Frozen tofu is a light delight, ideally suited to lactose-intolerant consumers. Recent studies have shown that increased consumption of soy helps to reduce breast cancer in women.

Kosen-rufu does not appear in the glossary of the recently published English translation of The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin. There is no concise definition of kosen-rufu that everyone agrees with.

Frozen tofu, when not made into a delicious dessert, becomes toughened by the freezing process and gets chewy. You can use this type of frozen tofu in stews and soups.
