Remeber when the Soka in Soka Gakkai supposedly meant "value creation"? Well, now SOKA stands for "Spirit of Knowledge Academy," a proposed new charter school in Massachusetts based on SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's alleged love of peace and humanity.
Whether it's Scientologists, Christian fundamentalists or even Nichiren Buddhists, I find myself agreeing with Debbie Schussel on this point:
Charter schools...are merely vehicles to suck your tax money into funding bizarre religious ideologies and further separate America.
Even as an adherent of what some consider a "bizarre religious ideology," I don't want my tax dollars to support "education philosophies" dreamt up by the likes of L. Ron Hubbard and Daisaku Ikeda.
Do you?

"But the school's Sept. 3 opening, on the leased campus of a former school in Calabasas, will be accompanied by a whiff of controversy." Could that be the same site that SULA used? Do places have karma?Debbie Schlussel? Seriously?Charter schools are fine with me. Isn't diversity supposed to be a good thing? Better than spending my tax dollars on building schools in Iraq.
