Soka Hires Lobbyists

I've heard SGI members claim that SGI and its Soka spin-off entities do not hire lobbyists or engage in activities designed to influence public officials in the United States. SGI is involved in influencing policymakers in Japan, sure, but never ever ever ever would SGI engage in lobbying activities in the U.S. -- or so claim some leaders and members of SGI-USA.

According to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors web site, in entries dated December 26, 2003, Soka University of America is listed as a client of two lobbying firms: Cerrell Associates dead link and Hans Giraud & Associates dead link .

One might wonder why Soka has retained lobbyists, but there's nothing particularly wrong with it. It does irk me, though, when SGI leaders and members dissemble and deny it.

As a matter of fact and public record: Soka hires lobbyists.
