November 18th link roundup

NichirenPracticeBuddhismCommunity

Last year, deardenver commemorated November 18th:

November 18th is the 30th anniversary of the mass murder-suicide that left 918 people dead in Jonestown, Guyana. "Drinking the Kool-Aid," a reference to the massacre, has come to mean embracing a group or leader with blind, unquestioning obedience.

Studying Buddhism online? ShambhalaSun offers a collection of Buddhist study resources.

Check out the Nichiren Sangha of Second Life. What is Second Life? Go here. Freaky but cool-ish.

Rissho Kosei Kai and Unitarian Universalists are soulmates. Who knew?

Website content theft is a growing problem on the web. Several sites related to Buddhism take and republish whole articles, sometimes with links and attribution, sometimes not. (On buddhajones, if you want to refer to content on another site, quote a portion of the article and provide a link to the rest.)

Thanks for the links. Just took a trip back in time to some very interesting discussions.

I just took a look at that site and gave it about 20 seconds before I couldn't stand it anymore.Want to learn Buddhism go to http:/tientai.netWant to learn attachment go to that other link.

"Upon observing this single mind, one is able to penetrate the inexpressible mind. The inexpressible mind is able to penetrate the inexpressible spirituality. The inexpressible spirituality is able to penetrate 'that which is neither the mind nor spirituality', which is inexpressible. One observes that all states of mind are also like this.Common people in the nine states of bondage are not awakened and do not recognize this. They are like blind children that are heir to a fortune. They sit in the midst of the treasure trove but they do not see its treasures. Upon moving about, they bump into the treasures and hurt themselves.http://www.tientai.net/lit/mks...
Stop bumping into to treasure and open your eyes to what is there in front of you.

I could have built a server from scratch and reinstalled the software by now. Anyone know whats taking them so long to get the site back up?

Based on the note here http://www.e-sangha.com/ I believe they are trying to recover the old forum data.  There were rumors of some sort of hacking attack, although I have no way to verify this.

markp

They are searching for data recovery experts and lawyers which is not a good sign. That means they haven't been doing backups and probably means if it is restored it will be at a basic state.I've created a temporary forum for the interim just for Nichiren Buddhists at http://ichinensanzen.org/forum...Hopefully I won't have to keep it around too long, but I am prepared for it to last, and I do backups. :)ESangha rules apply, and I am looking for moderators.

Talk about attachment. Sheesh.

markp

whatever that means, okay.

Cultmember

Maybe the owners of e-sangha should take losing their archives as a lesson in non-attachment. However I think it's karmic payback for all the capricious moderating they did.

markp

As being one of those that were capriciously moderated I whole heartedly agree. Sometimes it was like dancing on razor blades just to get a point across. :)
