More Celebrity Buddhist Gossip!

SGINichirenChantingPracticeBuddhism

Can't get enough, right? Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr talks up her practice:

Kerr, 25 is a Nichiren Buddhist who is currently dating fellow Buddhist Orlando Bloom.

She says, "I chant every morning and night. I find it extremely grounding and centering."

And Courtney Love stays oh-so-serene:

Working out and doing daimoku (chanting), yoga and eating correctly helps.

I like the part where Love calls out Madonna. I'd like to see a Battle of the Alternative-Religion Stars, where SGI celebrities square off against Kabalah and Scientology celebs in nylon track suits, a la Battle of the Network Stars. How Buddhist!

Funny about Battle of the Stars. I feel very bad for Courtney Love because I think her emotional state is being manipulated. I'm referring to this article:

COURTNEY LOVE has quit anti-depressants in a bid to rediscover the rage that drove her early albums. The feisty rock chick acted on the advice of her management to stop taking the mood-stabilising pills while she's recording new album Nobody's Daughter.Label bosses feared her songs would lack the staple Love aggression if she stayed on the medication - but she can't wait to resume her daily dose. She told Elle magazine: "I'm off anti-depressants for the moment because my album producer wants me to feel the rage, wants me to be really angry and face the demons."And I am so f***ing angry! I'm getting back on them as soon as the album is finished."I'm not going to punch anybody, but I have to do two hours of exercise and chanting a day to feel good."In case you're wondering, the chanting refers to one of the Buddhist rituals she practices to keep her drug demons at bay.
I find this very disturbing. Are these "label bosses" doctors? Are they qualified to tell someone to go off their medication?I think it needs to be stressed that chanting daimoku is NOT a substitute for medical or psychiatric care. These kinds of articles make it sound as if medication can be replaced with chanting. I don't think this is a healthy or realistic expectation.

I know celebrities obviously cannot be good Buddhists(sarcasm)......Give me a break, if Daimoku helps her keep clean then good for her. Of course all REAL Buddhist are perfect, never get into fights and eat vegan(sarcasm again)...We all have stuff we need to work on.

BeBar, here's a whole blog dedicated to cataloging celebrity Buddhists:http://buddhistcelebrities.blo...It's mostly photos.I'd like to see a series of bubblegum trading cards like baseball cards of Buddhist celeb headshots with vital stats printed on the back -- such as "Hours of daimoku chanted per week," "meditation retreats attended" and "favorite koan."
