Get your chant on

NichirenChantingBuddhismPolitics

Check out Shodai-gyo by Reverend Hosho Sugawara of the Hilo, Hawaii, Nichiren Mission (of the Nichiren Shu persuasion.)

For bizarreness, check out this weird thing on their site about "unlucky ages" for men and women. I don't remember reading anything about that in the Gosho. I'm guessing it has nothing to do with Buddhism, and everything to do with groundless superstition.

Just for information:  The video portrays the shodai or chanting portion of the full Shodaigyo service.  There is a prostration, opening prayers and a short period of silent meditation before the chanting.  after the chanting there is another short period fo silent meditation a prayer and recitation of the Four Great Vows, and then a closing prostration to end the service.

Nine Lives

That's some jammin' daimoku. I like it. Thanks for posting.

I am enjoying the many videos on the site. What a great resource. I'm seeing several things I've never heard of, such as this: http://www.hilo-nichiren.com/a...Yes, patriarchy. (Most religious traditions are hopelessly patriarchal.) Still, fascinating.
